Austin man, 61 charged with indecency with a child
04:59 PM CDT on Tuesday, June 30, 2009
A 61-year-old man has been put in jail and charged with inappropriately touching a child more than three years ago, and police say they are concerned there may be more victims because they say the man often invited neighborhood boys into his home.
Eugene William Shier, II was arrested last week after a 15-year-old male told police Shier inappropriately touched him several years ago. Shier is charged with indecency with a child by contact.
Police are asking parents whose children played at Shier's house three to five years ago to question their children about anything that might have happened at the house.
"We have determined that Mr. Shier, during that time period of 2005-2006, had a number of children who frequented his house," said Detective Brett Bailey, APD Child Abuse Unit. "He had a trampoline in the backyard and a homemade swimming pool and video games and so forth, and his residence was kind of a hangout for young children in the neighborhood."
Shier lived near Rutland and Quail Valley in North Central Austin. Police say he was known to those in the neighborhood as "Bill."
