Jarrod Marfin, 27, an employee at the restaurant Jeffrey's, was riding his bicycle northbound on Lavaca at 5th at 2:30 a.m. on June 23rd.  Two unknown witnesses told the victim that a taxi cab struck Marfin's back tire throwing him from the bike.  The cabbie kept going.

"I'm just shocked that somebody would drive off,” said Marfin, who doesn’t remember anything about the crash.  “I'm not angry or anything like that. I'm not trying to put this guy away for life.  I would just like for him to come forward and give me an answer as to why and help out with medical bills and stuff." Marfin's jaw was broken in three places.  Several screws and a plate are now holding his jaws together.  His mouth is also wired shut.

"They went in and put in two metal plates … and I've got  eight screws … and probably about eight or nine stitches," says Marfin.

Austin police are anxious to find the taxi driver in question as well as two young men who witnessed the accident.

The same witnesses stopped to help Marfin and stayed at his side until help arrived.  The problem is however that in the confusion no one stopped to get contact information for those witnesses.

Marfin and Austin police believe the same witnesses may hold the key to solving this hit and run mystery.

"It's just really important to us to find who did this and for Austin, this is just something that needs to be done," said Nancy Marfin, Jarrod's mother.
