10:42 PM CDT on Saturday, July 4, 2009
The Hernandez family is preparing for “Fun on the Fourth”. They arrived at Auditorium Shores at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, six hours before fireworks light up the sky. They snagged a perfect spot right in the middle of the grass.
“We have our little tent set up, have plenty of blankets on the ground, and we brought plenty of food and water and drinks,” said Gabriel Hernandez.
The Moran family also came early.
“I think we got here maybe an hour earlier than last year,” said Tai Moran. “We got us a little more shade and we’re feeling more prepared. We have a blanket and some pillows. We’re excited!”
A huge crowd packed into Auditorium Shores to celebrate the America’s Birthday and give thanks to the men and women who have fought for our freedom.
“The 4th of July is the celebration of America and of our freedom. It represents what we have in this country. We are celebrating all that we have,” said Moran.
“We are celebrating our freedom. We have the freedom to sit out here enjoy the atmosphere thanks to all the men and women who fought for our freedom we are celebrating for them right now,” said Hernandez.
Organizers said the 33rd annual 4th of July concert and fireworks celebration is the biggest and brightest birthday party in the state.
Once again, the rocket’s red glare wowed the crowd and reminded us-- together we stand strong, united, and free on this Independence Day.
