Austin invited to help break 'Thriller' dance record

The Alamo Drafthouse has teamed up with Mayor Will Wynn to be part of "Thrill the World."
It's an international effort to have thousands of people around the globe dance to Michael Jackson’s "Thriller" at the exact same time and break a world record for the largest synchronized dance ever.
Wednesday, Wynn invited all of Austin to leave the world of the living and help break the world record for the largest synchronized "Thriller" dance on October 25.
The Long Center is where organizers plan to break the world record. They hope 8,000 Austinites will come out and make this the "Undead Music Capital of the World."
Wynn is willing to put his rhythm where his mouth is and join in, and while Wynn’s footwork earned plenty of fans at Austin City Hall, not everyone is ready to join, including Austin City Manager Marc Ott.
“Ahhh...I’m thinking about it, we'll see, I don't know,” said Ott.
Several public rehearsals are scheduled to learn the Michael Jackson classic.
While organizers say the steps are easy to pick up, the competition is tough. In July of 2007, 1,500 Philippine inmates managed to master Jackson’s hit.
Wynn says his priority is to just have fun with it.
"Towns that are more fun are going to do better economically, fighting crime, spiritually, and Austin is a fun town if nothing else and we should continue to promote that," said Wynn.
So put on your dancing shoes and practice your best zombie stare. There's no telling what will be lurking in the shadows this Halloween.
