Maker Faire returns to Austin
11:25 AM CDT on Friday, October 17, 2008
A do-it-yourself event like no other returns to Austin this weekend.
From electric gizmos to foods and homemade clothes, the Maker Faire celebrates things people create themselves. The event started in San Mateo, California and expanded to Austin last year.
Organizers expect more than 35,000 people to attend and get involved over the weekend.
"You're actually getting hands on. Most places you go, you just get to look at things, but at Maker Faire, you can participate," said Sherry Huss, Maker Faire director.
Maker Faire kicks off Saturday at the Travis County Expo Center and runs 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
