ABIA's family lane designed to reduce holiday travel stress

Families traveling this holiday season may feel a little less stress getting through security at Austin Bergstrom International Airport.
ABIA is designating a family security line in hopes of making the process easier on everyone.
Nanette Simmons and her daughter Avary are off for the weekend. But it's not easy.
"[It's] just hectic trying to get things packed and get through the airport with a stroller and all your luggage and a car seat - it's hectic," said Simmons.
It's not even crowded -- not yet. Come next week the airport will be packed, and that's when some parents really get worried.
But as of Wednesday, ABIA has designated a family lane at each checkpoint. It's for people who simply want a little more time to get organized here, and parents seem to love it.
"With three kids acting like this, they're screaming they want this and they want that. To be able to around families, you know, people who know exactly what you're going through, that's actually a pretty good idea," said Orlando Jacob, father.
Families don't have to use it and even people traveling alone can pick the designated line. The whole idea is reduce the stress on everyone.
"If you're going to require me to go through all the hoops, at least allow someone -- who is a frequent traveler and knows what they're doing -- to be able to go through the correct line and not have to deal with people who aren't used to it," he said.
Young kids certainly aren't used to it.
"Totally fabulous -- would be all for it. Because a lot of times travelers just don't get it. You're taking off your shoes, you got a stroller you've got to unpack that, you got your kid running around. It's crazy," said Simmons.
Even after the holiday season, the new family security line is expected to remain in place.
