Borris Miles pleads not guilty
07:06 PM CDT on Thursday, May 8, 2008
Former State Representative Borris Miles pleaded not guilty Thursday to two counts of deadly conduct.
The charges stem from complaints that he brandished a pistol and made threats at two different events in December.
Miles allegedly pulled a gun on the wife of TSU regent Willard Jackson at the Toyota Center during a Rockets game.
Later that night, at an invite-only Christmas party thrown by Houston businessman David Harris at the St. Regis Hotel, an apparently intoxicated Miles reportedly pulled a gun again.
Harris claims Miles threatened him. Witnesses said the lawmaker also forcibly kissed another man’s wife.
Each count carries a punishment of up to one year in jail and a $4,000 fine.
Miles is expected back in court May 29.
Miles lost his seat in the legislature to Al Edwards earlier this year.
