HOUSTON -- Just 48 hours after 11 News aired a series of surveillance videos of several robberies at some area fast food restaurants and auto parts stores police said an important tip came into Crime Stoppers.
“The anonymous caller gave information on one of the suspects,” said Houston detective John Varela.
The suspect who police said is the ringleader of the crime gang is a 6-foot tall woman who likes to carry a gun. She is also fond of wearing Capri pants.
Police believe the woman captured in the video is Dishekaer Young; a 22-year-old who police say is associated with a well-known southwest Houston street gang called the 59 Bounty Hunters.
Her arrest from that phone tip led detectives to a townhome complex at South Gessner and Gustine, where three other alleged gang members were taken into custody.
Ashley Hudson, 17, 36-year-old Clarence Greene and a 15-year-old juvenile were all arrested in connection with the armed robberies.
“Without a doubt we've got the major players involved,” said Varela.
A relief to say the least because since December of last year, the group is believed to be responsible for at least 18 robberies. Most of them occurred along the beltway.
None of the suspects, we are told, had real jobs. They allegedly made their living through the heists.
And they were allegedly recruiting other gang members to help them out with these crimes.
“We're still conducting our investigation (and) there could be more arrests in the future,” said Varela.
Just two weeks ago, the case was keeping Varela up at night and he said it was pretty much at a standstill until one of the 11 News viewers came through with that top.
