Houston's economy is roaring, but don't tell that to the thousands who've lost their homes. One-third of the properties for sale in Houston right now are foreclosures.

Monday night at the St. Peter Claver Catholic Church in northeast Houston, desperate homeowners attended an emergency town hall meeting where lenders discussed their options and offer tips.

Among those in attendance was Minnie Hillary, who is losing her home of 30 years.

“I raised my kids, they went to school, my husband worked for Metro. We did everything we needed to do and now I am in trouble,” said Hillary, who refinanced her home after her husband died.

She says the lender told her it was an adjustable rate mortgage, but didn't explain what that meant.

Now her payments are too high to keep up.
