HOUSTON -- A man was found shot to death after Houston firefighters responded to an apartment fire.

When HFD arrived at the complex on Antoine near Tidwell, they found the kitchen stove smoking. Then they found a man lying on the living room floor.

Initially, Houston police thought the gunshot wound was self-inflicted, but they found evidence that someone else had shot him multiple times.

"We have a couple of witnesses, but the investigation is still being conducted," Sgt. Jay Rubio said.

Police said the victim lived in the apartment.
