GALVESTON — Police are continuing an internal investigation into officers’ actions during a hotel bar riot, but the district attorney’s office and the U.S. Department of Justice could join in on the probe, Police Chief Charles Wiley said.

The department opened its own internal investigation Monday.

Investigators will interview witnesses who saw the disturbance, a news release said.

The police department might ask for assistance from the justice department, Wiley said.

After an officer pulled one man aside for having an open container in a prohibited area of the H2O bar at the San Luis Hotel early Sunday morning, he and 10 others were arrested.

During the brawl, officers used Tasers on two of the men and six police officers were injured. Witnesses claimed police officers were using unnecessary force to gain control of the crowd.

After the investigation, District Attorney Kurt Sistrunk will review the case and accept any referrals for criminal charges, the release said.

Anyone who has information about the case should call the police chief’s office at (409) 765-3790.
