Man sentenced to life in prison for murder of reserve deputy constable

HOUSTON -- A man convicted in the robbery and shooting death of a reserve deputy constable was sentenced to life in prison Thursday.
Alan Nickerson was one of five suspects arrested and charged in the murder of Carltrell Odom, 22.
Police said Odom was talking to a group of friends in the parking lot of the apartments where he lived when they were approached by the suspects, who were armed.
Odom broke free and attempted to flee, but he was gunned down.
Investigators identified Nickerson as the shooter.
Odom suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Nickerson was a student at Jones High School at the time.
