Tree cuts Spring mobile home in half, narrowly missing children

SPRING, Texas – A family in Spring narrowly escaped tragedy Wednesday when stormy weather knocked a tree into their mobile home.
After awaking to a loud noise, Tiphany Watson opened the door to her bedroom and fell through the floor of her trailer. She could hear her children crying, but it was dark and she didn’t know what had happened.
She climbed back into the mobile home and walked in the darkness toward her kids. Sharp aluminum, insulation and tree limbs were everywhere, scraping her skin.
That’s when she realized what had happened to her home: A fallen tree had sliced it in half and separated her from her 18-month-year old daughter and 4-year-old son. Her children’s bedroom is in the front of the home; her bedroom is in the back, and the tree fell in between.
Watson crawled through the debris, around the trunk of the tree – which was sitting in the living area—and made it to her children’s bedroom. Her 4-year-old son was crying, but he was safe.
Her daughter had fallen asleep inside her car seat, and Watson believes that the car seat saved her daughter’s life. A tree limb fell over the plastic portion of the seat, missing the little girl.
The Spring Fire Department came to the family’s rescue. Firefighters used ladders to help the family out of the house. Watson said they would be staying with family in Conroe.
