HOUSTON—A 15-year-old girl has been rescued from what authorities say was a life of forced prostitution in Houston.
Police believe the teen was a victim of human trafficking.
She came to Houston from Mexico with a man she thought was her boyfriend.
The girl told authorities she thought she was coming here to work in a restaurant.
But when she arrived, authorities say the boyfriend told her she would instead be a prostitute, and she needed to bring home $500 a day.
The teen told authorities she ended up working in bars and was held captive in several southeast Houston apartments, but she had no idea where she was.
She was finally able to call her mother in Mexico, who then contacted a relative in the U.S. That relative contacted police.
So far, two people have been arrested in the case, including the so-called boyfriend.
Police are still searching for a third suspect, who is charged with human trafficking.
