06:25 PM CDT on Friday, June 26, 2009
HOUSTON -- New trash collection routes will go into effect on Monday.
The City of Houston Solid Waste Management department will be rerouting garbage collection in the north service zone.
This area is north of I-10.
It is estimated that more than 85,000 homes will be affected.
Residents have been alerted by mail.
The city says the changes are intended to streamline service and could save the department a quarter of a million dollars yearly.
