Couple involved in early morning accident, husband dies at scene
01:25 PM CDT on Sunday, June 28, 2009
HOUSTON -- A man was killed after he pulled his car onto the shoulder of the Eastex Freeway at Kingwood on Sunday morning.
The husband and wife were on their way to Sugar Land around 4:30 a.m. when the husband pulled over to the shoulder to trade places with his wife. The husband complained of being tired.
That is when a man driving a red pickup truck slammed into the back of the car and killed the husband on impact. The wife had no injuries. The driver of the pickup was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.
He says that he may have fallen asleep at the wheel.
Police say the driver of the pickup was not intoxicated, but there is a chance that he had been taking some sort of pills. He will be tested for drugs at the hospital.
