10:00 AM CDT on Monday, July 20, 2009
HOUSTON -- Officials have released the names of two women who were killed when a man returning home with his new driver’s license mistakenly hit the accelerator and crashed through a garage in Houston.
The Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office said Sunday that 66-year-old Hac Thi Nguyen and 41-year-old Vi Thi Nguyen were killed in Friday’s crash.
Police say the driver was Vi Thi Nguyen’s husband and the son-in-law of the other victim.
Houston police spokeswoman Jodi Silva says the women had been cooking when they were pinned against the back wall of the house by the car.
Silva says the driver is a recent Vietnamese immigrant and was with his father-in-law returning from the Texas Department of Public Safety office.
