Investigators: Heights arsonist strikes again
10:18 AM CDT on Tuesday, October 13, 2009
HOUSTON—Investigators say a serial arsonist in the Heights struck again late Monday night, just as area residents were getting out of a meeting about the rash of fires.
The latest blaze broke out at a vacant home at 23rd Street and Durham around 9:30 p.m.
That’s the same area where as many as 14 other fires have been set since August.
Firefighters, arson investigators and ATF agents were all at the scene.
Fire crews managed to knock out the flames before they caused extensive damage.
Meanwhile, the community meeting at the fire station at 12th Street and Yale was full of residents concerned about the fires.
The residents wanted to know what's being done to catch the firebug.
Investigators told residents they’ve had several tips, but they’ve yet to make any arrests.
Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the identification arrest and/or charging of any suspect in this case. Tips can be called in to the hotline at 713-222-TIPS.
