"The Invention Of Lying" is an uneven film that starts off great and then quickly falls apart. Ricky Gervais stars as Mark, a man living in a world where no one lies and everyone always speaks the blunt truth - that is until Mark tells the very first lie. Mark starts lying for his own personal gain and the world believes his every word, including the girl of his dreams, played by Jennifer Garner. It's an intriguing, intelligent idea that never gets going after Mark begins his lies. "The Invention Of Lying" is actually co-written and directed by Gervais, along with Matthew Robinson. Together their writing is much stronger than their film-making skills. This is a mediocre, sloppy-looking film. "The Invention Of Lying" is rated PG-13, and always seems a bit out of touch. Mark eventually becomes a spokesman for mankind and the film starts to resemble a bad Jim Carrey feature. The more I think about "The Invention of Lying," the worse it gets. It's a good idea, but turned out to be a not-so-good film. The Invention Of Lying (PG-13)
