Mom to be thanked for heart donation
01:34 PM CST on Thursday, December 28, 2006
It's sure to be an emotional day for the mothers of two little girls - one who was recently killed and the other who needed a new heart.
The mothers are scheduled to meet each other this afternoon.
Katherine Frances, 6, was living in a Desoto foster home when the family's 14-year-old son allegedly body-slammed her to death.
Her heart was given to 5-year-old Claire Fowler.
"A little girl died so that she could live," said Fowler's mother.
"When we found out it was Katherine Frances, it was particularly upsetting."
Frances' mother says she feels part of her daughter is still alive because of the donation.
Little Claire will not be at today's meeting. She's still recovering and does not yet know the story behind her new heart.
A detention hearing is scheduled today for the 14-year-old accused of killing Frances.
