Summer Survival Guide: Fritz Park Petting Farm
10:08 AM CDT on Monday, June 29, 2009
IRVING — If your kids love animals, they can get a taste of farm life without leaving the city. The Fritz Park Petting Farm in Irving has been welcoming guests for almost 40 years.
Kids get to see and touch goats, cows, deer and other animals they might not otherwise get to see in an urban area.
"We have staff that can actually show people the different things and explain what the animals' normal environment would be," said Irving Parks and Recreation Department staffer Walter Ritchie.
Youngsters also might get a chance to feed the animals, depending on the time of day.
The best part is, admission to the Fritz Park Petting Farm is absolutely free. It's open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays through the end of July
