Cornyn wants cheaper health insurance, not gov't funded

UNIVERSITY PARK – Sen. John Cornyn spent Tuesday afternoon in Dallas meeting with doctors and several un-insured people at the Christ Family Clinic inside Preston Road Church of Christ in University Park.

It was his third stop on a “Health Care Outreach Tour” in the state.

The trip is in response to President Barack Obama’s push for health care reform that congressional Democrats, with a filibuster-proof majority, back as well.

The cost of a reform is part of the problem. White House senior adviser David Axelrod said the president won't rule out a health care reform bill that includes a tax hike on people making less than $250,000 a year, ABCNews.com reported Sunday

"We don’t need the government to get in between you and your doctor," Sen. Cornyn said.

The Republican senator said government-funded healthcare isn’t the answer to what has become increasingly expensive private health care coverage.

“We need to help bring down the price of health insurance and make that more available,” Sen. Cornyn said.

Sen. Cornyn, along with fellow Arizona Sen. John McCain and Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell, met at Houston’s M.D. Anderson Cancer Center Tuesday morning after a stop in San Antonio.

Cornyn plans a visit in Austin Wednesday.
