DALLAS — The woman who led authorities on a nearly two-hour chase from Irving to White Rock Lake in Dallas early Tuesday morning was wanted on an outstanding cocaine-possession charge, the Dallas County sheriff's department said.
Irving police stopped Jennifer Goolsby, also known as Jennifer Lynn Williams, 36, near Bower Road and Irving Heights Drive at about 4 a.m., said Raul Reyna, a sheriff's department spokesman.
Reyna said he did not know why Goolsby was initially stopped. Irving police did not return a voice message requesting comment.
Irving police chased Goolsby into Dallas, at speeds reaching 100 mph, and managed to spike her tires. Sheriff's deputies picked up the chase on Interstate 30 near Ferguson Road, Reyna said.
Deputies followed Goolsby's Ford Escort as it plodded east down the middle lane of the highway at speeds below 20 mph, finally exiting on Buckner Boulevard.
"She wasn't driving fast by the time we caught up with her," Reyna said.
Finally, at 5:44 a.m., Goolsby stopped — apparently voluntarily — near Buckner and East Lake Highlands Drive and was arrested on an accusation of evading arrest, he said.
Goolsby is in custody with Irving police, Reyna said. Other charges may be pending.
Public records show Goolsby has a string of previous convictions dating back to 2004 for charges including drug possession and prostitution, according to PublicData.com.
Goolsby's chase began less than a day after a man led Dallas County constables on a chase from a traffic stop in Mesquite to a devastating crash on Plano Road. That crash left the suspect, Shane Michel, 29, in critical condition Tuesday morning.
