Romo visits Yankee Stadium, plays golf with Tiger
10:17 AM CDT on Wednesday, July 1, 2009
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is having a busy trip to New York and Maryland.
A game of golf with Tiger Woods Wednesday follows a charity appearance at Yankee Stadium with a leukemia patient Tuesday night.
Woods, though, didn't have a full appreciation of the market at the AT&T National in Bethesda, Md.
It's one thing for Woods to play with a celebrity in the pro-am, even an NFL quarterback. It's quite another when that quarterback is the Cowboys' Romo, playing before fans who live for the Washington Redskins.
"I didn't realize it was going to be this big a deal," Woods said.
It will be the second quarterback Woods has played with in a pro-am this year. He played with Peyton Manning of the Indianapolis Colts at the Quail Hollow Championship.
The difference might be in crowd reaction.
"It's going to be a fun round, but also an interesting one," Woods said. "Granted, he used to getting booed, and it is what it is."
Romo was on the field at Yankee Stadium Tuesday night, clutching a football and chatting with Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter and other Yankees before rain cut short batting practice.
Romo brought a guest - 10-year-old leukemia patient Ben Grant of Albany, N.Y.
Asked his favorite teams, Grant said the Yankees, Cowboys and New York Giants.
"No, not the Giants!" Romo said in mock distress.
