LANCASTER - SWAT team officers swooped in and were able to pull out an armed man and place him in custody after a nearly five-hour standoff at a Lancaster gas station parking lot.
The standoff began at about 1 p.m. after the suspect was spotted driving his car erratically.
Alonso Mendoza could be seen sitting in his car with a cell phone in his left hand and pointing a gun to his head with his right.
Police said Mendoza is a suspect in the murders of his wife and her co-worker at a San Antonio shop Wednesday morning. Investigators said Mendoza opened fire in the store, killing them both.
The Lancaster standoff began after authorities tried to pull Mendoza over for speeding along the interstate, authorities said. Police said he didn't slow down and led police into the parking lot of a gas station, which was where he remained parked and surrounded by dozens of officers for hours.
As negotiators tried to end things peacefully, snipers lined the area waiting for the man's next move.
