05:54 PM CDT on Friday, July 3, 2009
The Denton County Sheriff's office is searching for two men investigators believe are connected to the murder of a cab driver, whose body was found burned and with stab wounds in rural Denton County.
Just before 9 p.m. Thursday, the Justin Fire Department responded to a grass fire near Highway 114 and John Day Road and, while extinguishing the fire, firefighters discovered the partially burned body of a man.
The man had several stab wounds to his chest and his throat had been cut, according to the Denton County Sheriff's Office.
The man was not wearing a shirt and had identification, but a blue van marked as a Freedom taxi cab was found nearby.
Two white males in their early 20s are suspects in the murder, according to the sheriff's office.
One suspect was caught on video buying beer at a convenience store near the scene. He was wearing dark green or camouflage pants, a black t-shirt and a black baseball cap with a "B" on the front.
According to the taxi company records, the driver picked up two men near the Dallas bus station who asked to be taken to Wichita Falls.
Investigators discovered a large amount of blood in the front and rear seats of the cab. Investigators contacted the cab company and learned that the driver of the found cab he had been missing since about 7:45 p.m. The cab driver's daughter had been trying to call him on his cell phone, but got no answer.
No money was found in the cab or on the victim, so investigators believe robbery may have been the motive.
The name of the victim has not been released while the medical examiner tries to identify who it is.
